block redundancy check

block redundancy check
   (BRC)
Information added to a transmitted block to verify accuracy of data before it is accepted. Block check data is developed by the sender as a predefined function of information in the block; the receiver performs the same function on received data and compares the calculated and received block checks. The block is accepted only if the comparison is exact. Also called block check character(s).
